Through the HandUp Prison Program, we provide support for returning citizens, helping them navigate reentry with case management, resources, and encouragement to rebuild their lives. This includes training in Job Readiness and Financial Education.
Louisiana has the highest incarceration rate in the world, and each month, hundreds of formerly incarcerated persons are released in the Baton Rouge area. These individuals are often without resources, education or support, and many find themselves in a cycle of homelessness. As an organization, we feel called to respond to this systemic crisis in our community.
Our hope is to help the formerly incarcerated to become self-sufficient, reduce the rate of recidivism and transform our communities and our city.
Our six month HandUp program exists to provide moderate-to high-risk individuals with the critical skills necessary to re-enter society:
Partners in our efforts include a coalition of local and state partners who help us to ensure that our participants receive a full spectrum of services covering each area of need and focus throughout the duration of the program, including an hourly wage with the opportunity to earn merit based raises.
Upon graduation, alumni walk across the stage equipped with spiritual and economical tools needed to establish a career in modern-day society while also having received a biblical-based curriculum emphasizing their worth in Christ and their personhood in His image.
