Our mission at the Christian Outreach Center (COC) is to be a place of support and refuge for the Downtown Baton Rouge homeless community.
The heartbeat of our mission is for the homeless to become self-sufficient. The path to self-sufficiency is through our ministry programs. They are life-giving to our organization and life-changing for the individuals who attend. Through our programs, our team develops one-on-one relationships with those in need in Baton Rouge.
One of the main programs we hold is Jobs For Life.
What is Jobs For Life?
Jobs For Life (JFL) is an eight week job training program created to help a class of individuals gain the skills needed in order to pursue a career. Our instructors teach the class jobs skills, such as:
Interviewing Skills
How to Write a Resume
Computer Skills
Professional Behavior
Identifying and Overcoming Barriers to Personal Growth
Discovering One’s Purpose/Possible Career Path
Finding Dignity in Work
At the end of each semester, a graduation is held to celebrate this accomplishment. The graduates are encouraged to invite their family members and friends to witness this exciting time in their life. Before receiving their certificate, each student shares their story and what career they desire to pursue with their JFL experience.
What Happens After Jobs For Life?
Our work with these individuals does not end at any given point. After JFL, the hope is to enroll them into our Life Transformationprogram where they will attend our financial literacy class, Faith and Finance.
Some of our other programs include: COTES (Christian Outreach Transitional Employment Services), Bible Study & Breakfast, Celebrate Recovery and Prison Reentry.
We deeply desire to continue helping these individuals in our local community and to see the Lord use our staff and these programs to change their lives in a beautiful way.
