On Friday and Saturday, October 26-27, bring your gently-used donations to The Purple Cow to have a DOUBLE IMPACT on the homeless community right here in Baton Rouge!

The Purple Cow will be donating $10 for EVERY gently-used donation we receive during The Fresh Start Donation Drive to The Fresh Start Fund.

What is The Fresh Start Fund?

The money collected from The Fresh Start Fund will be divided among the graduates of our “Jobs for Life” class to help them get a fresh start in their careers, and also incentivize these students to push past their adversity and make progress toward their goals to live an independent and productive lifestyle!

When you freshen up your home and wardrobe by donating to The Purple Cow, you are helping provide a fresh start to those in need.

We will be collecting the following items at both locations of The Purple Cow:

Furniture – Couches, tables, cabinets, dressers, etc. If it’s too heavy for you to bring, we’ll schedule a pickup!

Women’s Clothing – Especially women’s basics and Fall/Winter clothing

Women’s Accessories

Textiles – Pillows, placemats, blankets, throws

So, What is “Jobs for Life”?

“Jobs for Life” is a career training program run through The Christian Outreach Center of Baton Rouge, which is a Christ-centered homeless prevention ministry.

This 8-week class meets twice a week for anyone seeking to improve their employment situation, in addition to the homeless community or those living in transitional housing. This includes returning citizens, those overcoming addiction, or those who are homeless for other reasons.

This program is one of the main ways we help the homeless to become self-sufficient. We have 30 students getting this valuable training that teaches job skills with a heavy emphasis on character. Our class is currently meeting at Healing Place’s North Baton Rouge campus.

How “Jobs for Life” Helps Fight Homelessness

The poverty rate in Louisiana is 19%, but Baton Rouge is even higher at 26%. The primary way we are fighting the battle against homelessness and poverty is through employment.

Students learn how to overcome their roadblocks, develop effective communication skills, and develop a stellar plan and resume. “Jobs for Life” isn’t merely about learning certain skills; it’s about the life transformation of the student.

The next step for those who have completed “Jobs for Life” is to become employed and maintain that employment, if they haven’t become employed by the end of the class. The goal is for students to be in stable living conditions, and then take “Faith and Finances“, which teaches them practical techniques for financial management, stability and growth according to biblical principles.

The Impact of Your Donations

When you bring your items to The Purple Cow for the Fresh Start Donation Drive, you are helping incentivize and support the students of “Jobs for Life” in their career journey to become productive, thriving members of society.

ALL proceeds from The Purple Cow go to support the Christian Outreach Center of Baton Rouge and their homeless prevention ministry. Your continuous support through donations to The Purple Cow help make all of this possible!

Also, don’t forget about the amazing feeling that will come after freshening up your home and wardrobe! It’s something we all want and need to do, and NOW is the perfect time!
